A journey of flavors to discover the agricultural and farming realities of London and its surroundings. The markets we propose to visit are managed by “London Farmers Markets” (www.lfm.org.uk)<\/a>, which opened its first market in 1999. Currently, about 200 farmers and food producers sell at over 20 weekly farmers’ markets in London. Some farmers participating in these markets are members of associations including the Pasture-Feb Livestock Association (www.pastureforlife.org)<\/a>, Soil Association (www.soilassociation.org)<\/a>, and others.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

01 DAY - ARRIVAL IN LONDON<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Departure from your nearest airport. Arrival in London<\/strong> around 10:00 am. Meet with our Italian-speaking guide and departure by private bus towards the west.<\/p>\n

Visit to a 600-hectare organic farm with 3000 pigs, a dairy and beef cattle farm, which also cultivates wheat for bread production and animal feed. The owner is a member of the Soil Association and has diversified the farm’s activities to include a farm shop, a pub-restaurant, a hotel, and more.<\/p>\n

At the end of the visit, we will stop at the farm’s pub for lunch.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Depending on the timing and availability, it’s possible that a member of the AHDB (Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board)<\/strong> will join you for lunch!<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, you will return to London for a sightseeing bus tour<\/strong> that will take you to the most iconic places in the capital, including Buckingham Palace and St. Paul’s Cathedral.<\/strong><\/p>\n

02 DAY - TECHNICAL VISITS<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

We will start the day with a visit to the South Kensington farmers’ market<\/strong>, established in 2009.<\/p>\n

Today’s lunch will be provided by one of the producers present at the market<\/strong> (packed lunch), in order to optimize the time.<\/p>\n

We will then head south to visit two agricultural farms which are also regular exhibitors at the farmers’ markets in London<\/strong>. The first visit is to a beef cattle farm mainly of Simmental and Continental Cross breeds<\/strong>, which is an award-winning farm that, in addition to beef cattle, also raises English and Continental sheep breeds. The farm covers about 400 hectares of land – 220 hectares are used for arable crops and 180 hectares for grazing: cultivation of cereals, rapeseed, peas and flaxseed. This third-generation farmer has won several awards, including “Best Butcher of the Year” and “Food, Farming and Landscape”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Depending on the available time, if possible, we will also visit the historic town of Rochester<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The second farm is a “veteran” in the London markets, where it has been exhibiting for over 20 years! It is a fruit and vegetable farm, of approximately 120 hectares<\/strong>; they mainly cultivate apples, pears, and berries<\/strong> along with a wide selection of seasonal vegetables and salads<\/strong>. The farm sells fruit juices and fresh produce to independent shops, delicatessens, restaurants, cafes, and hotels, as well as supplying directly to customers at the London and Kent farmers’ markets. The juices are produced from mature fruit, hand-selected and pressed on-site, in small batches.<\/p>\n

Return to London, free time to freshen up before going to a nearby restaurant for a typical dinner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Arrival at the Blackheath Farmers Market<\/strong> and meeting with one of the organizers to discuss how the market is managed. The market was founded in 2000 and was featured on BBC one’s program ‘The Farmers Country Showdown’.<\/p>\n
